Technology can be more than communication and convenience. It can launch a student into new ways of seeing old problems, provide experiences of hard-to-reach places, and be a playground for trying out ideas. Our hope is that IU students' explorations will propel their studies and careers into a lifelong love of technology and a willingness to embrace new options that will make a positive impact on their lives.
Current Student Outreach efforts include tabling and participation in campus events, the Student Technology Advisory Committee, Extended Reality Initiative workshops and events, the Microsoft Technology Ambassadors ... and anything else students, faculty, and staff can dream up to enhance student learning with a technology focus.
Campus events
This fall, Student Outreach has joined the IU Libraries' Friday Finish events, helping students wrap up the week and cross the finish line with some support and a few much-needed study breaks. The team also joins partners like the Adobe Ambassadors, IT Training, and the UITS Support Center at IUB's monthly First Thursdays events.
Student Technology Advisory Committee
The Student Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) is made up of undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in sharing their experiences of specific technologies at IU. Groups like eLearning Design & Services and the IT Communications Office have visited STAC meetings to receive valuable student feedback.
Is your group interested in soliciting student feedback at a STAC meeting? Contact Payton Tauber at ptauber@iu.edu.
Extended Reality Initiative
Student Outreach will be a key partner as the Extended Reality Initiative (XRI) expands from IU Indianapolis to IU Bloomington, highlighting virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality technologies available for use in teaching and learning.
Ultimately, XRI hopes to inspire faculty to develop and implement course activities using these technologies, while informing students about how they can use XR to enhance their studies at IU and inspire their future careers.
Have questions or want to get involved? Contact us through the XRI web page.
Microsoft Technology Ambassadors
The Ambassadors are students driving Microsoft adoption via peer outreach. Through tabling and partnerships, they've already shared Microsoft and UITS offerings with over 1,500 of their peers. This spring, they will be partnering with the Teaching Centers and career centers around campus to offer workshops, guest speakers, and peer tutoring on Microsoft products.

New Student Orientation
From in-person and online presentations to tabling in high-traffic campus areas, Student Outreach is on hand to make sure students and their families know about the many IU tech tools and resources available to them. Beyond those initial weeks on campus, the team helps provide virtual reality and 3D printing demos at events and contributes to the Student Technology Guide and Learning.IU.
Campus Tech Fairs
The Tech Fairs are a beginning-of-the-school-year events for IU students, faculty, and staff—hosted by us, your friendly neighborhood UITS team. Ask us anything, and learn about cool tech available to you! Get free food, swag, and t-shirts by visiting booths from our CrimsonCard vendors, One.IU, eTexts, IT Training, IUanyWare, and tech vendors.
And more!
